Meredith Verzino Haner, owner and founder
Artistry is at the core of everything I do.
As a child, I made glorious, colorful messes: layering paint, arranging tiles, pressing various sponges onto canvas. I built dioramas – a miniature bedroom with ribbon wainscoting, a miniature jungle with layers of collected moss and foliage – intently implementing tiny, intricate details that made these worlds feel lush and real.
What began as creative play became a lifelong preoccupation with how designed space imparts feeling – specifically curiosity, ease, and delight.
That familiar thrill of inspiration returned when I visited the Mediterranean – first in my husband's village in Lebanon, then in Italy, my own ancestral home.
Mediterranean design is rich with contrast:
Intricate craftwork set against organic lines and texture, rustic materials refined by sophisticated elegance and detail. It's a long-standing, harmonious interplay between place and the people who live there, threaded with history, artistry, and the land itself.
When I bring a Mediterranean influence to my designs, it's this tension that I'm most often drawing from; my decisions directed by the synergy between where you are and who you are.
My time in Italy and Lebanon was deeply sensory:
The wind through the olive groves, stone architecture warmed by the sun, long meals in open-air courtyards. Ease unfolded in my body and I felt a profound connection to my heritage, like I belonged there.
Verzino, my family name, means “dark red” in Italian. “Le mer di verzino vino,” meaning “a sea of dark red wine” was used to describe vast amounts of wine in the older language. Merzino is a play on my maiden name — Mer-edith Ver-zino— but it's also an ode to the Italian Mediterranean lifestyle: one of easy abundance; warm, rich, and flowing like the sea.
The Merzino + Meredith Ethos:
Artistry and creativity is truly my life-giving energy...
and I want my clients to feel that same energy in their surroundings. Design is the creative practice through which I help create the order and harmony that my clients seek in their lives.
My technical fluency in interior architecture and design allows me to execute at a high level within the goals of the project, but my true work is to uphold the thread of emotional resonance and connection through every part of the process.
Everyone carries a sense of how they want to feel in their space, but they may not have the tools to actualize it.
I am a visionary that can bridge the gap between that feeling, that expression of who you are, and what it takes to build it. I transmute your inner vision into an environment that is unmistakably true to you — layered with the unique details, history, and culture that tell your story to anyone who walks through the door.
